Unhappy Ati drivers and a sapphire radeon 3850 graphics card

Hi to everyone, I am trying to set up Linuxmce on Kubuntu and having problems with the ati drivers

I have just built a media center to integrate in my hifi and Metz puros 32 lcd tv.

I want to try and run Linuxmce instead of windows media center.

State of play
I installed Kubuntu and booted into it to prepare for Linuxmce. The resolution was crap because of vesa and the fact that Linuxmce are more inclined to nvidia. Anyway, I installed the ati driver fglrx and setup the computer for the resolution I wanted 1024x768 and rebooted. Well, I met a black screen and have tried everything I can think of to make it work but nada.

I am trying to get ati to work with sapphire radeon 3850 and a metz puros 32 lcd tv as stated above.

The only way I could get to login was to revert to vesa but then I had just one resolution 640x... not so good on a metz 32.

Can anyone suggest a work around for this? Haven't installed Linuxmce yet. Seemed pointless to do so until I get a resolution that I want and the driver working properly with my graphics card.

As always, much appreciate any help I can get on this matter.

Please don't hesitate to ask for more info if required.

Try the radeon and radeonhd drivers too. The proprietary driver (fglrx) can really fix things up...and with kde4 not working ...you will not be able to configure much. Uninstall the restricted kernel and all other things with the driver first.

radeonhd is meant for your card(s).

Efferri, start synaptic.

search for fglrx

You will see a few installed packages

uninstall them
