ATI Driver troubles slackware 9.1
 
I'm back! :D

This time, however, I am having some issues with my Radeon drivers.

I followed this thread: http://www.linuxquestions.org/questi...312#post517312

I ran fglrxconfig fine, I configured it how I think it was supposed to go. However, my outcome in glxgears is horrible:

1300 frames in 5.0 seconds = 260.000 FPS
1200 frames in 5.0 seconds = 240.000 FPS
1300 frames in 5.0 seconds = 260.000 FPS

cd to /lib/modules/fglrx/mod_install
then run './make.sh'
cd to /lib/modules/fglrx
then run './make_install.sh'
then run fglrxinfo to see if it's how it should be.


I got another question tho. Mine still runs slow, tho alot better I've gotten this far. But the bitmap flag and the morphgl run about 10fps, along with some other screensavers, havn't tested any games, but I'm sure I wouldn't have any luck, What else do I need to do?

Radeon 9700 Pro
Asus a7s333
256 pc 2700
sb16 pci
Slackware 9.0

I've recompiled my Kernel, but didn't change but a few things, mainly the proc. type and disabled a few unnecesary things.

I got that when I did ./make_install.sh

I told you, I followed the instructions of that forum. I didn't know re-doing that was going to fux0r the kernel :D

So umm... how do i solve that problem now?

I got that same error lol. I figured it didn't matter. If you check the fglrxinfo it'll say what it's supposed to lol. I forgot about that tho, maybe thats why I get all the slowdown. I'm guessing you have to uninstall w/e driver was there before, but I'm pretty new to linux, so I don't know how to do that, hoping someone else could help us out here.

Nevermind, I actually just got it working. No longer does it do that when I modprobe fglrx and agpgart. However, I am still having some problemos.

when I lsmod, it shows agpgart and fglrx as being used by '0' - meaning SOMETHING is not working. What the hell did I do?

I'm not sure... the config looks fine to me, Whats ur specs jw, and are the screen savers running any better than they were before?

I dont run screensavers

glxgears is running worse than it did when i installed these drivers the first time - anyone have an idea?

oh, well I guess you prob. can't run most of the screensavers, glxgears runs pefectly fine for me. My performance still sucks though.

If you have kernel 2.4.x, Xfree 4.3 and an Radeon 8500, then try the builtin driver instead of atis fglrx.

Add this to your XF86config and leave your fglrx entry as it is..

Then, change the Device in the Screen0 Section.. f.e.

This worked perfect for me with the 2.4.x kernel.. But now that I updated to 2.6.0 I have the same shitty results as you have with glxgrears.

what driver should I use? this is what my section looks like right now - I entered it according to the information above..

I can't startx with that configuration uncommented - it gives me errors. When I modprobe radeonfb, it gives me errors.

I got somewhat further with this.

However, when I uncomment the
Code:

line under the Screen section and startx, the screen goes black for a few seconds and then the computer restarts on its own.

Thanks for all the help, this is the last peice I think! :)

When I ran glxgears with the xf86config _exactly_ how i listed it above, I got much better results (more frames in the 300s range) but I would like to get the expected performance (1000s?). Thanks again, all help is greatly appreciated!
