I have a ati 9800 pro too. I run slackware, but from your glxgears you don't have any drivers installed. You should be getting over a thousand. Do you have the fglrx module? In lib/modules/ ? Here is part of my xconfig. Try the fgl_glxgears. Some memory error than this should be in your fstab if not already or you will not have 3d acl. tmpfs /dev/shm tmpfs defaults 0 0 .Then go ahead and issue a 'mount tmpfs' at the prompt to get it going, or just reboot. # Each Screen line specifies a Screen section name, and optionally
# the relative position of other screens. The four names after
# primary screen name are the screens to the top, bottom, left and right
# of the primary screen. In this example, screen 2 is located to the
# right of screen 1.
# Each InputDevice line specifies an InputDevice section name and
# optionally some options to specify the way the device is to be
# used. Those options include "CorePointer", "CoreKeyboard" and
# "SendCoreEvents".
