Hi there, yes ATI has a reasonable driver for linux - go to their website www.ati.com and download the version 3.12 driver. Not sure what version of X windows you have, but this will run on X 4.3 or X.org 6.7. The package installs some build scripts into directory /lib/modules/fglrx. As root, open up a console and switch to directory /lib/modules/fglrx/build_mod, then do:
then run the configuration utility fglrxconfig to create a config file, making sure you save it with the correct file name (X 4.3 looks for XF86Config or XF86Config-4 while X.org 6.7 looks for xorg.conf) Once you reboot you should have the fglrx driver loaded.
Well, I don't have Suse or sax2, but if this person opens up a console and does an 'lsmod' command, they should see the fglrx module loaded. If it is they can do the usual test commands: 'glxinfo', 'glxgears', and for ATI 'fgl_glxgears'.
when i type LSMOD i do see the agpgart is running as with fglrx but there used by 0
so there not being used. and when ic heck the loaded driver it still says mesa...
now i have installed fglrx and km_fglrx, i put Load "dir" in the XF86Config and -4 file also.
i did the fglrxconfig and made sure to put Yes to load agpgart. as this is how i got it working last time...
but yet unused..
