ATI 9000 & Slackware 9.0

I have an ATI Radeon 9000 and I just installed Slackware 9.0 . I would like to know how to have 3d acceleration (libraries to install, configuration ...) Is it better to use ATI drivers instead of thoses provide with Xfree 4.3.0 ?

Angry ati 9100

I still have Direct rendering : no

via kt400 unsupported by agpgart, I use a Ati radeon 9100 128Mo.

I try insmod agpgart try_agp_unsupported=1 nothing as change, and i try linux-drm-4.3.0-kernelsource.tar.gz

I dont know what to do....???

I wont to play unreal tournament 2003....

I load glx and dri and create DRI section in XF86Config.
I load the radeon driver for the device in XF86Config.

I use Slackware 9.0 with kernel 2.4.20.

The radeon drm (v1.1.1) in the latest stable kernel is not version-compatible with the radeon libraries in XFree86 4.3.0. To fix it you need to compile and load the radeon.o kernel module that comes with XFree86 4.3.0. I have posted instructions on how to so this. Search for posts by me.

i would recommend using the ati drivers, not the drivers that come with xfree4.3; though the drivers that ati supplies on their website will only work with xfree 4.1 or 4.2. they come as a .rpm package and as i use debian i needed to convert them to a deb package using alien - i think with slackware there is some sort of rpm package compatibility. Good luck.

personally, i prefer to have source code. if i can't compile it myself, i won't install it. i recognize, however, that some people with the latest and greatest video cards are basically forced to use ati or nvidia binary drivers. fine. use them if you want. i just wanted to point out that there is a version-mismatch with the Xfree86 radeon libs and the 2.4.20/2.4.21-pre6 kernel radeon drm which, if people try to use them, will result in no hardware acceleration and reduced video performance. as i said before, you can use the XFree86 4.3.0 radeon drivers with their revised radeon drm if your want to -- or -- you can use gatos ati.2 drivers -- or -- you can go the ati binary route if you want to use an older version of XFree86. whatever works best for your setup.
