ATI 7500 Radeon (PCI) giving flaky output

Been working on this since April and I have not found any answers to this ATI Radeon 7500 AGP with the oft-mentioned, semi-random dots on certain buttons.

kernel is 2.6.15-26-386

lspci readout says this:

Then, to make matters worse, am not sure who/what/when/where
/why this happened:

Please be advised that I have googled many times and ways, searched pretty much everything I can think of trying to get this resolved.

What exactly is your question?

tokenringman38 08-23-2006 09:28 PM

Is there something I can do to get this thing to work in 3-d and get rid of those annoying semi-random dots? Perfect world would be both, but willing to settle for removing the dots.

Am also curious as to those mesa drivers and what they are and if they are any good. Yes, I googled all over the place for the info. My head hurts from the amount of searching on this.

THanks in advance

FInally fixing the ATI 200 issue

Thanks to a sharp reader (Robb Topolski), I found this info on another site:
1. Click on System, Preferences, Theme
2. Click on the Theme Details button
3. On the Controls tab, choose LegacyHuman
4. Click Close
5. Click SaveTheme (I called mine MixedHuman)

The dots are gone.

Thanks Robb

Cool - congrats on solving the problem and thanks for posting back with a solution that worked.

Now, can someone explain to me why it works....

Can someone explain in non-techie (plain English) why the above works? I am not being smart aleck. Rather, am just trying to learn something from this almost 5 month ordeal.

Thanks in advance,
