ATI 3D Rage Pro 2X VGA Card in Linux

Hi to everyone.

I am new to Linux and I recently installed Linux 7.2.

I am facing some problems although I select My Keyboard layout "US" but in GUI Mode (KDE) (GNOME) my backspace key is not working.

In text mode my backspace key is working. Another problem is my VGA Card ATI 3D Rage Pro 2X support 32bits in all windows version but during Linux 7.2 Installation on X Server Configuration this VGA Card is not available so when I only select Generic Mach 64 then it display on 24 bits and not displaying 32 bits that is reason I cannot graphics acurately.

And there is no taste of browsing with these resolutions. Please help me and also guide me how to find my VGA Card Driver and how to install them on my Linux 7.2.

I heard about modules ps also tell me how to detect new hardware and install hardware's software from CD Rom.

Please tell me the difference between the Linux and Mendrake 9.1 and also Distribution Linux.

I will appreciate a quick response.

With Best regards,

Farrukh

ATi 3D Rage Pro on Linux

Hello friend,

I'm using my ATi 3D Rage Pro card with Red Hat Linux 9 and it works very well.

Which Linux distribution you use?

Linux is a kernel and its last stable verison is 2.4.23 There is no Linux 7.2. It may be Red Hat Linux 7.2 you use. Red Hat is one of Linux distributions. Mandrake is other. All Linux distribution use same Linux kernel. Only version numbers can be difference.

If you are a new user, I think Mandrake or Red Hat is for you. Here are some distributions and their last versions

Red Hat Linux 9
Mandrake Linux 9.2
Slackware Linux 9.1
Debian Linux 3.0

please visit www.distrowatch.com and check the distros which you interested in.

And welcome to Linux world. You are in so so big community. Here are thousands people ready to help you.
