I have an ATI Radeon 9250 and i too have had no luck with the drivers for linux. It's something that i have put on the back burner until something better is available. That is actually one of the very few reasons that i still dual-boot windows xp.

yup the ati driver installs easily on fedora core (kernel 2.6.9) but once you updated to kernel 2.6.12 the driver requires some sort of patch. oh well you can always go back to using the old kernel

i also installed the driver using slackware 10.1 and it was fairly easy as well

Wishing peoples that most likely has families to die because the drivers they offer for FREE aren't working for you. Well, as always, problem is between the keyboard and the chair. It was YOU who bought an ATI (or a PC with it) it was YOU who decided to install Linux and it's YOU who is not wise enough to install the drivers.

ATI will never work very well with Linux because they are known to work better DirectX. Nvidia, on the other hand, works better with OpenGL and that's one of the reasons why their drivers are great. ATI is getting there.

I'm requesting this thread to be closed. You are not truly asking a question anymore and hate posts goes to the trash can. Create a blog if you just have to talk non-sense. That's what blogs are for. Come back when you grow up a little bit more... thanks!

Two comments - first, speaking from personal experience, I can vouch for the fact that installing ATI drivers can be "challenging", so I feel your pain. Second and more importantly though, the LQ technical forums are intended for Linux-related questions rather than rants. Since this thread doesn't really ask a specific question and things are pretty much off track, it seems best to close it -- J.W.
