ATA DMA Errors and SMARTd

So for the last year, every once in a while, I have been getting the following error according to SMARTd (See first code block below). I haven't lost any data yet. SMARTd short and long tests are run every day and week (respectively) and the hard disk is passing the tests. SMARTd says the state of the drive is OK. Nothing freezes, and no sound is made by the disk during these errors.
In the last six months, the errors have increased to once every month or so. In the last month, I've gone from 72 to 95 errors (see second block below)... but all still recoverable, resettable errors. In the last week, I have been receiving 4 or 5 of them each day.
I have ordered two 80gb Caviar SE SATA disks to run as a raid mirror. Just in case this thing is on its last leg. The big question, is ... IS IT? How can I tell if this is on its last leg. Is there anything about the information below that would lead me to believe this?

Code:

Error 96 occurred at disk power-on lifetime: 25788 hours (1074 days + 12 hours)
When the command that caused the error occurred, the device was active or idle.

After command completion occurred, registers were:

Device does not support Selective Self Tests/Logging

use hdparm to change dma settings...is it fixed in the bios?

The logic card of the drive may be having/developing problems too.

The drive may become undetectable suddenly and you may still be able to use it as an external usb drive for
quite some time (happens with spinpoint)

But 'ATA Bus errors' of the form may be due to the controllers on main board too

Best
