Asus Xonar D2

Hello all. I purchased an Asus Xonar D2 sound card which works perfectly. However, i need to be able to mix the spdif-in signal to the spdif-out signal, in order to monitor an external audio device while (at the same time) listening to any sounds the computer makes.

How can this be done? The control panels related to alsa or pulseaudio that are included with my Ubuntu 9.10, do not allow such a configuration. By reading around, i came to the (temporary) conclusion that suchj an effect is possible with the proper .asoundrc file. Unfortunately, i am not skilled enough to figure this out myself.

Please assist. Any help will be appreciated.

If it's a hda-intel card (Is it?) you can find some tweaking tool whose name excapes me on the alsa site and play with that to see if it helps.
