ASUS USB-N13 Wireless Adapter keeps malfunctioning... I think (Ubuntu 12.04)
 

Hi guys.

I recently built a computer and went looking for a Linux compatible Wireless USB Adapter. I ended up getting the Asus USB-N13 Adapter. When I plug in the adapter it picks up my router's signal and I can connect, and most of the time I'll get connected with it working. But half an hour later it'll stop. Also, if I put the computer to sleep or restart, it'll stop working. If I try to disconnect from the wireless and reconnect it'll keep telling me that I'm getting disconnected. The only thing that'll solve the situation is to take out the USB, wait a second, then put it back in.

Then, sometimes that won't work. I'll have to restart my computer and then put it back in and hope it works. I haven't installed any drivers or anything, since the first time I put it in it connected (after selecting the signal), and I'm beginning to think that's the problem. The USB came with a CD, and it has a Linux folder, but I'm so new to Linux that I have no idea what to do with it. I should also add that the tower is no more than ten feet from the router and when I'm connected the signal strenth is great.

I've tried reading other posts on other forums about people having problems with the router but the information is either too complicated for me to understand or any solutions offered don't seem to do anything for me.

Any help is greatly appreciated. I feel like I'm gambling with time whenever I use my computer.

You got a bad unit and should return it for an exchange.

I found your question on Google because I had the SAME problem with the SAME unit. After I was unable to find any help online I took the USB adapter back to the store with the intention to purchase another one. When I got there the merchant said there were no other linux compatible units in the store; so I purchased another Asus USB-N13.

I got home and plugged it in to my laptop. It immediately found my networks and has been working flawlessley ever since. The unit is essentially plug&play. No need to muck around with drivers on the included CD.
