ASUS Eee Ultra Mini PC 701 and 900...which is best?

I am planning to buy an Asus Eee PC but can't decide between the

ASUS Eee 701

or the,

ASUS Eee 900

So the quesion is, which one do you guys recommend?

I have the 701. It is so useful. I have stuck 2gb of memory in it and installed Kubuntu. Everything I want to work works. The battery life is phenomenal. It really has been a case of *never worrying about it!!* I never carry the charger with me. I use it for ;

watching films
music

...and all on that tiny screen..... :)

I hear that the battery life on the 900 is not so good.

I just got a 701 today, and I'm very happy. For me it was availability and the prospect that once the 900 is available here it will probably be for more than it is announced, and only in the windows version.
Unfortunately they only had one with a 4400mAh battery - linux sais it's 5200... either way I will probably need an additional battery anyway, as I don't want to be hunting outets in the city. - had it on the charger the whole day, so I don't know how long it will last yet.

I'm typing this on it right now, over my neighbors w-lan, and I don't get why everyone is complaining about the keyboard. I can touchtype on this just as fast, and I don't have small hands. Only a couple of keys that are in unexpected places slow me down.

I haven't used both, but I expect that the bigger screen, and the default 900mhz clock will be a battery drainer. The latter should be setable in the bios.
If the 900 was available here already - in the linux version - I would probably go for it. The bigger screen is a striking argument. If pretty much the only one ;)

Well I actually do not won one, but have to say if you use it mainly for Web stuff, you might be more comfortable with the 900 because of the higher resolution. Webpages are normally optimized for 1024xXXX so having a 800x480 resolution makes you sidescrolling which i find very annoying. But since there is a significant price difference, the 701 might be a very good choice after all. What do you think about the Acer Aspire One http://www.acer.com/aspireone/ it already features the Intel Atom, wiht 8.9" Display you get the same as the EEE900 and 8GB SSD seem quite nice, too. The price also seems very competative (at least in Germany its only 40€ more than the EEE 701). I'm Thinking about getting one very soon.

Also most sites I visit are optimized for 800x600 - so no horizontal scrolling for me.

Well, I don't care. What's the release date? What's the actual price?
Chances are Acer will also put out a windows version.

And I don't get the XP - bloat argument. I'm not a microsoft fanboy, which you can probably tell by me being here... you can call XP anything, but bloated? It doesn't even have the drivers for half my hardware! Everything about it is minimalistic, and it boots up twice as fast as any give non-reduced linux distribution that I've tried. It's what?... 8 years old - what do you expect? It doesn't come with an-y-thing. So where does the bloat come in?

I know people who run xp on the eee, and they are very happy with the responsiveness. I agree that it's stupid, because what are you going to do with that thing that requires XP... but they just give people what they want.

Guys, thanks a lot for your posts! Aside of one negative review, the rest sounded pretty positive and that also goes for what I read in the forums....yeah I know, don't believe everything you read in forums, but then again I played with it at the office and at the store and it looks sizzzzzzzling!!!

The keyboard is indeed smaller...duh!...but then that is the whole point! I could type in at least 60 characters per line, so as long as it is relative to a desktop I'm fine with it. Battery life is better then my regular laptop, linux is pre-installed, w-lan, usb, so what else do you need....oh yes, it doesn't come with a beer tap :-( hahaha!!!

I've wanted one of these for ages, but the only thing stopping me from getting one was the 701's slightly small screen - as mentioned before, I was worried that browsing websites would be irritating due to the resolution. So when the 900 came out with the larger screen, I decided to get one. It arrived on Monday, and so far everything's been great. The wireless support is excellent, it recognises all the usb devices I've plugged in to it. I haven't tested the battery life but so far, seems to be around the 2 hour mark. I'm going to try to get the upgraded battery for this UK version, which will cost me an extra £10, but I think it will be worth it.

So far, I'm really pleased with my little eee, and it draws quite a bit of attention from envious "normal" laptop users :)
