I built a new system based around the following specs about a month back, and have noticed some really weird and highly annoying behaviour manifesting on average every 2 days. The computer will freeze while doing random tasks (no single program will manifest the behaviour).
It usually starts with the keyboard, and everything displayed on the monitor freezing, except for the mouse. The mouse can still be moved without a problem for about 10 secs. Then the screen goes blank, but the computer remains running. It is almost like the computer is randomnly going into standby/hibernation mode, except both of those are disabled in the bios.
My next plan is to try a bios update to see if that will fix things, and following that see if something is wrong with the bios settings.
Code:
Asrock ALiveSATA2-GLAN (onboard sound and lan disabled)
OCZ DDR2 1024MB
AMD 3800 X2 (low wattage version) running at stock speeds
Zalman Copper/Alu Heatpipe Heatsink, w/92mm Fan (interfaced with cpu using arctic silver compound)
XFX GF 7300LE
1x Seagate 160GB SATA2 HDD
1x Western Digital 80GB PATA HDD
1x NEC DVD/RW Writer
True 450w PSU (generic brand)
Running Fedora Core 5 x86_64
The voltages running from the PSU are as follows (pulled from lm-sensors data).
Code:
w83697hf-isa-0290
Adapter: ISA adapter
VCore: +1.31 V
+3.3V: +3.36 V
+5V: +5.13 V
+12V: +11.55 V
-12V: +0.96 V
-5V: +2.04 V
V5SB: +5.59 V
VBat: +0.03 V
fan1: 0 RPM (Exists but has no 3rd pin to allow monitoring)
fan2: 2766 RPM (CPU Fan)
temp1: +30°C (Northbridge Temperature??)
temp2: +33.5°C (CPU Temperature i think)
Any other information you require please ask for.
Thanks in advance
[edit]
BIOS update didnt fix it, it still happens.
It seems to happen quite a lot when im using gftp, and also when im playing games. Im starting to suspect the graphics card, but i cant test any other card as this is the only PCI-E card i have.
