Having trouble installing a piece of hardware? Want to know if that peripheral is compatible with Linux?

Question Are any of these hardware components not Linux compatible?

I have an ASUS A7N8X motherboard, an AMD Athlon XP 3000+ processor, an nVidia GeForce FX 5500 Graphics Card, 2x512 dual channel Corsair RAM, and a Western Digital Caviar SE 7200 160GB. From what I can tell, it SHOULD work with Linux. I have a Logitech USB keyboard and a Microsoft USB mouse (but I have PS2 versions of both if necessary).

As of current, my Ubuntu 7.04 install keeps giving me a Kernel Panic - Tried To Kill Init! Whenever I try to run it...

A kernel Panic is the kernel's "I give up" message. The cause of the panic should appear in the half dozen or so messages ahead of the kernel panic message. Could you post the messages ahead of the kernel panic message?
