I know this is a very old thread, but I happened to come across it while searching for something similar. Many people run into this situation when they're trying to save money on buying battery backups. To have proper network monitoring you need to buy a Smart-UPS
. They have SmartSlots on them that allow the installation of WEB/SNMP monitoring cards. After you install one of those you can monitor it through the network and issue commands. People try to save money and buy the lower end UPSs and get that same functionality. It pays to have good protection.
