APC Power-Saving Back-UPS Pro 550

Hi,

I intend to buy a UPS for personal use. I have a slackware 13.1 machine on a quite old pc, and what I would like is just the PC to being turned off after 5minutes every time there is a blackout.

I have found the APC Power-Saving Back-UPS Pro 550. However I don't know if there are drivers for slackware.

Any other suggestions would also be welcome.

Thanks in advance

The drivers are on SlackBuilds.org. I have an APC Back-UPS ES750. ( its usb attached ). The apcupsd driver for me works on Ubuntu 10.04 on my netboook, but not on any OS ( Ubuntu 10.04, Mandirva 2010.1 and Slackware 13.1 ) on my main system. Just a word of caution. The doc is good enough, you will find it here -->http://www.apcupsd.com/

I have been beating this thing to death for 6 months. My main system never creates a device, no matter what I do. I know the APC ES750 is O.K. since it works on my netbook. The power supply has carried my system, router and DSL modem for 20 minutes on a power outage.

Hope this helps.

I sent an email to APC, in order to find out if they support this UPS for linux and this is their answer:

Dear Mr Mattes,

the Back-UPS Pro 550 comes with PowerChute Personal Edition software, which is compatible with the operating systems in the following link
http://www.apcmedia.com/salestools/J...SAQJ_R8_EN.pdf
Unfortunately any other version and generally freeware operating systems are not officially supported.

Thank you for contacting APC.

Kind Regards

Not surprised, I got similar help when I contacted them with respect to the problem I have. Disappointing to say the least. The fact is there are thousands of servers running with apcupsd.
