Is anyone here using their Lexmark E220 with linux?
I can't find that printer under LinuxPrinting.org 's database .. they do have E210 listed as working perfectly, but what about E220?
I bought that printer yesterday but it's lights constantly display a SERVICE ERROR message and the manual informs me to take the printer to the vendor if a SERVICE ERROR occurs.
Well if it doesn't work under linux then I might take it back for good, atherwise just get a next one.
i don't know if this is legit info, and i wouldn't doubt that it is, but this was in the linuxprinting.fourm.lexmark
Quote:
Contrary to what Lexmarks web page says (at least ther "Drivers and Downloads"
page for the Lexmark E220, this printer does NOT work with Linux. It only
understands PCL.
Technical support said their E321 has personalities for both PCL and Postscript
if you want to lay down a bit more cash, but the E220 will not understand
Postscript and only has the PCL personality.
Bummer, because I purchased the E220 based off the webpage advertisement.
False advertisement?
i will tell you that support for lexmark printers in linux is absolutly terrible, and i wouldn't doubt that this information is in fact true, so you can accept this info as you wish ...
no i am not saying its not the right one ...
what i am saying is that lexmarks support in linux is absolutly terrible .. and even if you find a driver on lexmarks site, don't count on it to work ...
i have a lexmark (which i don't use), but have tried various methods and it wouldn't work ... even the driver located on lexmarks site ...
i was just quoting a comment by a user with that printer and i told him to take the info as is ... and go from there ...
Thanks for your info DrOzz, I've seen that post @ linuxprinting.org too, I'm still hopefull I can make that printer work. I also did get thore rpm drivers from Lexmark's drivers page, but I'm running Slackware so it will take me bit longer to get them installed.
But right now that will have to wait untill Monday afternoon (2 days from now) as untill then I will be very busy .
BTW I will update this thread on my progress with this printer in Linux, as I dont wont to be dependent on M$ Windows for printing.
