Any experience of Sharkoon SATA Quickport Pro LAN HDD Docking Station with Linux?

Does anyone have any experience with this device? It's quite new, not in any of the compatibility databases I checked, and looks ideal for a cheap NAS alternative or for backup use. I'd like to use this device connected directly to a network switch to provide some cheap and cheerful almost-always available NAS like storage and also, having swapped the disk, for periodic backups.

There are three main questions:
1) Will this device work as a NAS with (openSUSE) Linux clients? Some Googling seems to indicate it won't as it requires some sort of server software installed on Windows machines.
2) Will it take 1TB disks, or does it have some arbitrary maximum?
3) If either of these is 'no' what's the best replacement device for similar money? I know there's plenty of information on this point already available ;-)

Thanks in advance.

So, a bit more Googling has taken me towards the generic Linux NDAS device drivers from Ximeta and the Kandas project as described and linked from Wikipedia. Will these work?

Perhaps for €45 I should just buy one and find out....
