Question Another sound card problem, that you have probably heard before!

Right, I have been using Red Hat linux 7 for a few years, and because I had no Internet access, I was reletively on my own. Consequently, I have never installed sound on a linux system. At present I have started using Fedora Core 2, which I though would automatically pick up the sound card, or perhaps I am still used to Windows.

Anyway, all I want is a simple tutorial that walks you through the basics of setting up sound. So if your sick and tired of this same question popping up again and again, just point me to a site that has these details.

Thank you in advance

Jay

The first thing I did was run /usr/sbin/alsaconf and it will run through and autodetect your card if it can or has not already. Once that is done go into a volume control program and make sure all the volumes have been moved up. If you are using ALSA which I am pretty sure is the case with Fedora core 2 the default is to mute all the volume. Make sure you increase the volume on all items that you can and check to see there is not a tab at the top with even more volume options. I found the best way to ensure it was working was to have some music playing and start increasing volumes. Once I heard sound I knew which ones to work with in the future.
