Another modem problem.
The driver for the modem, which is a intel –536ep, i downloaded onto my other computer in winzip form. I then, copied it to a floppy disk hoping that my Suse 9.1 O/S would find it, no luck im afraid.
I even tried unziping it to a folder, loading it once again to the floppy and then copied it to a new folder on the Suse desktop. Still no luck. Should the Suse O/S recognise winzip. These are the instructions I was following.
6 steps to install.
1. login as ROOT
ctrl+alt+F2 (you should have a black screen with a "login prompt"
type: root <enter>
root password <enter>
2. extract the archive into a directory with "tar -zxvf <archivename>.tgz"
type: (you should see a # symbol here) tar -zxvf <your_file_name>.tgz
3. cd into the directory it created.
It will create a new directory for you at this point, cd (change directory) to that directory by
typing:cd <new_directory_name>
4. Type: make clean
type:make clean
5. Type: make 536
type:make 536
6. Type: make install
type:make install
Any ideas please. Regards, Bobby.
