Well you're root, the command is correct, and it can't find a SCSI device... which Distro and version, depending on how your distro built the kernel for you simply modprobing ide-scsi doesn't always do the trick.

Thanks. I got it fixed.

cdrecord works like a champ.

My next prob is KOnCD and Xcdroast. They got to the point where I was ready to burn an iso on a fat32, but they stopped saying no permissions.

They don't have permission to access the burner most likely. Honestly, you might want to try k3b, easily the best burner software (Doze, Mac, *Nix or otherwise) that I've ever used., and I'm a command line junky as well, it resets permissions as it is.

For Xcdroast I never bothered to fix the permissions, I just run the GUI from an xterm su'ed to root.
