I recently installed ubuntu "feisty fawn" on my computer, which has a m2n-mx mother board, with an integrated audio card: an MCP61 hda. everything works fine, except for 2 irritating particulars: every sound I hear comes with a disturbing high frequency noise, and as I try to configure audio settings with a mixer or a similar tool, audio crashes and my system remains mute until I reboot. Has anybody had a similar experience with this kind of hardware? Is this an ubuntu issue or a linux one? is there any way I can fix it?

This is most likely a problem caused by the version on the kernel used by your Ubuntu. So it's both .

do you think there is some way I can fix it? should I change distribution?
