AMD64 and gentoo, will 64 OS give better performance that 32 ?

Because of complications (gentoo 64bit live cd not booting)
i started compiling 32bit gentoo from 32bit knoppix.

however ive just descovered Knoppix64, which would allow me to compile gentoo completely as 64bit.

is it worth starting again, losing hours of compile time ?

would a 64bit OS give better performace than a 32bit running on the same AMD64 CPU ???

if so, how much of a performace ?

also.. games like UT2003... they wont run on a 64bit OS, any ways around that ?
