AMD Opteron or AMD 64 dual core difference?
 

Does anyone have experience with Dual Core AMD chips?

What distinguishes a dual core AMD 64 X2 chip (such as the 4400+ model) from the Operton Dual Core 165 processor?

Both have 1MB cache per core, both are x86_64, I think they have the same Ghz speed (if they don't lets say you were comparing to chips that _did_ have the same speed).

Is the opteron "feel" faster to the user? Is it more reliable?

One of the biggest differences (and maybe the only, I'm not sure) is that the Opteron uses "registered" ram which is much more expensive. I believe that there may be slightly higher memory latency, but it is much more reliable. That's why it's used in server applications.

The Opterons are a lot more expensive too. Unless you're running critical servers you're better off with an Athlon 64 X2.
