AMD hardware RAID?

hi, I just installed a new hardware RAID configuration using my motherboard's onboard RAID controller, but am having a hard time making linux detect it. My motherboard has the AMD 790GX/SB750 chipset, and the windows drivers worked, but AMD doesnt have a linux driver for their chipsets. Is there any driver out there?

That is not hardware RAID. That is software RAID. You have to use dmraid. It is best to not use dmraid and use Linux software RAID instead. A better way is to use Addonics hardware port multiplier which includes a true hardware RAID. The following is what I suggest.

You do not normally use modules or drivers from manufactures because the kernel comes with them. Either piix or ahci modules should be able to work with your setup. You may have to change the type of protocol or type of SATA controller in the BIOS for some motherboards. If you do change it, you can affect your Windows installation.

Actually, I think it's fake RAID.

The WikipediaŽ article is entirely too kind to the mfrs. & way too easy on their morality, i.e. the truthfulness of their advertising.

Fake RAID or software RAID. Really does not make any difference. Both are equal. The fancy term is quasi-RAID.

Wikipedia is written by idiots that are not reputable. Do not believe everything you read from wikipedia. Though wikipedia can be an OK source only if the information is backup by a reputable source.
