AMD's APU or Intel's Core i7 ?

If I want to custom-make a new desktop PC, AMD APU or Intel Core i7 is better for Linux?

My objective is for multimedia and internet.

U don't need an I7 for Facebook. Get an I3 or a decent dual core amd

TigerLinux 12-23-2011 07:12 AM

invest for future. :D

Currently the linux support for that AMD is somewhat limited where the core I7 is pretty stable.

and I have an AMD A6 and a core i7

APU has built-in GPU, no need graphic card.
Does Linux support that?

I have seen posts that suggest that the AMD drivers are to be used in place of the supplied distro's drivers.

What is better, a Rolls-Royce or a Daewoo?

Compaing an intel i7 to an AMD 'A' Series CPU is like that...they are in very different price ranges. You can get a whole AMD 'A' series CPU + motherboard + RAM for less than the cost of the lowest level desktop i7....

AMD Phenom II is still a good choice

+1

I'm using the Phenom II 6-core 1090T. I can't imagine needing to upgrade for a LONG time. Compiling Libreoffice in 20 minutes is pretty impressive.

jefro 12-27-2011 03:47 PM

1090 pretty darn good but the core i7 is still more goodererrr.

yep & intel memory in some mob's is expandable to 24gigs, but with AMD I can build 2 computers for less than I could 1 intel.

Good for embedded computers and fanless machines. I wouldn't consider it for anything else at this time.
