Alsa working, but /dev/dsp Vanishes

Hi

Im on Slackware 10.1, with a custom built 2.6.11.2 Kernel.

I Didnt choose the Inbuilt Alsa Kernel drivers, instead i installed the drivers manually.

After building the drivers from source, sound worked fine, but everytime i rebooted /dev/dsp + mixer etc etc all kept vanishing.

Now i can quickly recreate them by running that "snddevices" script included with alsa, but id rather get to the root of the problem and get a more perminant fix.

Anyone know why its doing this? can anyone think how to fix it, besides having snddevices run on boot up :P

Thanks verymuch
D9
