Alsa Volume Control Problems
 

Running into a odd problem with alsa drivers (1.0.4) for
an intel8x0 driver.

The driver seems to have installed correctly but the volume control
is broken or appears to not be working.

The master volume control doesn't do anything, and
the only way to control the volume is the headphone volume control
and the PCM volume control.

If anyone knows what exactly might be wrong, I would appreciate it.

Yes? So in other words, the drivers are working exactly as they do in windows, and exactly as its supposed to?

PCM=Wave Out, just like windows. Master=Volume of everything but still needs invididual volumes turned up to work.

I realize that PCM volume control is working, but headphone volume control is acting like master volume control.

Master volume control does nothing. If you have it muted or all the way up the volume
control is not effected.

Where as I have another linux box running with a different alsa driver for a different card,
an Audigy - emu10k1 driver, and it behaves as I would expect. The individual
volume controls work, and master volume control controls everything.

In this case (intel8x0), master volume control doesn't do anything.

The card if its any help is a Intel Corp. 82801BA/BAM AC'97 Audio (rev 04)

I have the same sound card and same problem of master volume NOT doing anything. PCM control adjusts volumes up and down but no change at all when using the Master volume slider in Gnome ALSA mixer or the command line alsa mixer. This means that adjusting the volume (in Gnome) via keymapping etc doesn't work - PITA. Any ideas ? BTW Caeda read the posts clearly before giving your typical smart alec answers. People come here for help, not to read your thinly veiled insults.

I installed Gnome ALSA mixer, adjusted the volumes, closed the Gnome ALSA mixer, reopened it anmd now it all works as expected. Previously I had used the command line ALSA mixer but no joy there. Cheers
