Alsa problems - no line/pcm input
Hello all,
I am having problems with alsa (or my sound driver?) under Slackware 12.1. My configuration: 1. Kernel 2.6.24.5 (stock, the one that came with Slackware 12.1) 2. Philips 11NB5800 laptop (actually a rebadged Twinhead F11Y) 3. Intel high definition audio (whatever goes with Intel 945GM chipset?) 4. Using snd_hda_intel module. Playback works fine in all applications. When trying to record with Audacity, I discovered that alsamixer only offers 'mic' and 'front mic' as options for input. Recording from microphone seems to work just fine in Audacity, but I just can't find any way to get it to record sound played through the system (from internet etc.) - if I'm not mistaken also called sometime pcm in mixers? Anybody any ideas? Is my sound module misbehaving? Can I force Alsa to add pcm input in the mixer? Am I doing something wrong? I have googled for all combinations of words I could think off - but I can't seem to find something relevant to my case. Many thanks for any suggestions. P.S. - Just discovered alsaconf reports the chipset as Intel 82801G |
Anybody any ideas

A possible solution, although convoluted, is to get a copy of the latest Live Puppy distro and run it. While configuring the sound card, it shows a variety of drivers to choose from and maye one will work and you can then search (find) the same driver for your distro. PCLinuxOS 2007 Live distro also offers a variety of drivers to test to get your correct driver if one exists.
Good luck, Michael |
