ALSA problem on mandrake 10.0 with SiS7012

i don't understand what's going on really,i installed all of the alsa stuff fine, drivers, libs, utils.

then when it came to doing modprobe snd-intel8x0;modprobe snd-pcm-oss;modprobe snd-mixer-oss;modprobe snd-seq-oss

i get this error
WARNING: Error inserting snd-mpu401-uart (/lib/modules/2.6.3-4mdk/kernel/sound/drivers/mpu401/snd-mpu401-uart.ko.gz): Unknown symbol in module, or unknown parameter (see dmesg)
WARNING: Error inserting snd-mpu401-uart (/lib/modules/2.6.3-4mdk/kernel/sound/drivers/mpu401/snd-mpu401-uart.ko.gz): Unknown symbol in module, or unknown parameter (see dmesg)
FATAL: Error inserting snd-intel8x0 (/lib/modules/2.6.3-4mdk/kernel/sound/pci/snd-intel8x0.ko): Unknown symbol in module, or unknown parameter (see dmesg)
FATAL: Error running install command for snd-intel8x0

so i thought it was possible i was doing something wrong, so i ran alsaconf, in a terminal while i was running KDE. when i did that it gave it the same error when i chose my soundcard and it tried to initalize, it gave the same error.

so i thought kde was the problem, i logged out of kde and ran alsaconf again, but when i chose my soundcard it said "is it ok to try and initialize snd-*** instead of snd-intel8x0

it runs fine if i do that but there's no sound cause that's obviously a null card.

do any of you have any idea what could be wrong?

Maybe this could help:

Try typing "dmesg" in a console and searching the output for more details about the error (for best results, use dmesg right after attempting to load the modules; the details will be right at the bottom of the output).

I continue to have problems with the snd-intel8x0.o driver on Redhat also. The first time I tried it on Mandrake, it seemed to be fine... I have no idea..

i thought about recompiling my kernel to support my soundcard, but under the alsa drivers section, there isn't my card, so this is really frustrating

EDIT: nevermind about that i just looked past it accidently, i think support for it was automatically compiled into it though...

i just went through a nightmare cause i messed with my kernel, but i got everything working fine now, my computer is using the alsa drivers, but alsamix won't start, i can't insert the drivers still.

it says it's using alsa drivers and they're making crackling sounds constantly and it's driving me insane, i can't seem to switch back to OSS either.

any idea what's wrong?
