Unhappy alsa killed my BIOS ?!

Hmm - mundo problemo dude!

Had problems installing sound (suprised?) under Slackware 8.1 (using KDE desktop). Comp is a HP Pavilion 7880 (uk) - AMD Athlon 1.1 on what appears to be a Asus mobo (details here http://www.geocities.com/pbhj/7880-info.html)

Previous question here : http://www.linuxquestions.org/questi...threadid=58015

Basically I've installed the ALSA drivers for my AC97 sound card but discovered that when I leave (shutdown/reboot) linux my BIOS gets corrupted (?) and I have to go into the BIOS setup and reset. The difference is that somehow the sound support is being switched to disabled.

How can this be? Any suggestions?
