Alps Glidepoint with gpm and 2.6 kernel (and alps patch)

I have a Toshiba Satellite Pro A10 with an Alps Glidepoint Touchpad. I am using the version 2.6.4 of the kernel (self compiled) with the ALPS Glidepoint kernel patch applied (www.ussg.iu.edu/hypermail/linux/kernel/0310.1/0106.html).

XFree86 is working correctly with the Synaptics Touchpad driver (reading form /dev/input/event1). My problem is that the mouse is not working properly in gpm, (gpm is Reading from /dev/input/mice). When I start dragging my finger across the pad, the cursor jumps backwards before moving in the direction I what to move the cursor.

I am using the default debian sid gpm (version 1.19.6). I have also tried to compile the version 1.20.1 with the patches at www.geocities.com/dt_or/gpm/gpm.html, however it kept failing.
