alpha?

I really don't understand but am interested in alpha hardware, I dont understand it really. Is it a completely different chip or everything is different? including the motherboard, etc? Does anyone know of a website that sells hardware to build an alpha system? Also what about an alpha rackmount servers for sale website? thank you!

The alpha is a completely different chip to the x86, PPC and most other common processors, so you do need a different motherboard.

Most alpha hardware is made by Sun as far as I know, so try checking www.sun.com

The Alpha chip was originally designed by DEC (Digital), which was purchased by Compaq, which in turn was purchased by HP.
