Having trouble installing a piece of hardware? Want to know if that peripheral is compatible with Linux?

ALE130 modem

I am installing an Askey ALE130 USB ADSL modem on Fedora Core 2. Eciadsl.flashtux.org have developed a compatible driver using the Nortek2021 drivers. I have installed it as to the readme file, but i am getting synchronization failure with ECI-Load 2: timeout errors. I am fairly new to linux and have done what the readme has asked me to do. The readme also says taht for PPPoE users i must use roaring penguins program, but the modem is installed under the hardware category as SYSTEM DEVICE and not MODEM/NETWORK device so i can't select it from roaring penguins hardware list to use for the connection.

More than that i am stuck. If anyone has some info, please let me know.

Many thanks
