akmod nvidia error Fedora 14 Beta Laughlin
Nvidia.ko for kernel 220.127.116.11-28.fc14.x86_64 was not found
I installed akmod-nvidia-1:195.36.31-1.fc14(x86_64)
card Nvidia 250 GTS
did you install the kernel headers and source for your beta testing of fedora 14 BETA
also you do know that the 195 driver IS NOT FOR YOUR CARD
the correct driver for your card is the 256.53
and why did you select that one ?
also you need to blacklist the "nouveau" driver
see the fedora guide
BUT if you are beta testing the NOT YET released beta testing ONLY fedora 14
you SHOULD all ready know HOW to do this , and be able to find a fix and wright the bug report
Yes,First I did blacklist it!!!!!!!!!!! Second kmod-nvidia does not exist for that kernel, third I installed akmod-nvidia though yum and it installed the version which i mentioned(it did not work it had errors saying it was missing nvidia.ko). Fourth I installed developer tools and tried to build the driver from source and had an error. It reported that nvidia.ko was not available for the kernel I was compiling for.
I have used fedora 5, 8,9,10,11,12,13
Thank you I have been around for a while.
If you can figure out how to get it to compile from source that would be of help!!!!!
That version is not available for fedora 14. I had to dig under packages for fedora 13 and found it. I installed it using yum and still had the same error pop up.
[brandon@localhost ~]$ yum list installed | grep akmod-nvidia
akmod-nvidia.x86_64 1:256.53-1.fc13 @/akmod-nvidia-256.53-1.fc13.x86_64
[brandon@localhost ~]$ cat /etc/fedora-release
Fedora release 14 (Laughlin)
used this command to black list.
sed -i '/root=/s|$| rdblacklist=nouveau|' /boot/grub/grub.conf
that is what a "not yet ready for the general public" BETA is
not everything will work
Not ALL the programs have been ported
and ONLY the hardware that the devs use has been tested
a beta release might not even work on other hardware
a beta release might not even boot
that is why it is a BETA testing version
if you are going to BETA test the not yet done/ finished version of fedora then you SHOULD know HOW TO INSTALL THE driver from nvidia
if the devs have NOT yet ported "the not yet ready fedora 14" nvidia driver then install the nvidia.run
from the nvidia web site.
------- end of ranting -------
really though if you do not now how to do this then you should not be using 14 beta
the driver is most likely just the tip if the " not working " iceberg
go to the nvidia web sithe an download the current 256 nvidia.run driver and instal it
just REMEMBER that with fedora AND the use of the *.run driver YOU MUST ALSO reinstall mesa AND it's source
that is a MUST the run installer overwrites some CRITICAL fedora system files
