ADSL USB Modem

Hello,

I am having trouble configuring an Alcatel Speedtouch USB ADSL Modem.
I am running Red Hat 8.0, and it has recognised it, however i cant get linux to dial out, it seems to be dialing out through the network adaptor. how do i set up my adsl usb modem using PPPOE in rh8.0??
I have been told that i need three different drivers for this modem, the problem is i am unsure as to which ones to use exactly??

Honestly it's not worth the trouble.

I searched for months and spent countless hours trying different things. Its the biggest pain in the @$$. I joined mailing lists , searched www.google.com/linux , sourcfourge has projects regarding this also none of this helped me.

Finally I just bought a Dsl modem that I could just conect to my nic card this worded like a charm.

I bought my modem from www.sbcdslstore.com

Good luck

If your speedtouch is model 330 ( new model )
You'll need the drivers from febr. 2003 ( 1.2 beta version )
see: http://speedtouch.sourceforge.net/in...?/news.en.html
And read the doc's
( It does not use pppoe but pppoa )

If your speedtouch is the old model, ( the stingray or stinger ) call again.

Alcatel Speed Touch 330 SuSE 8.1

Yes, it works. I used //sourceforge.net/projects/speedtouch driver 1.2-beta1 and the scripts speedtouchconf available there.
Ensure that your kernel supports HDLC and USB. Stopped the firewall as well. My ISP is in the UK.
Had to modifiy the version number in the speedtouchconf.sh script from 1.1 to 1.2-beta1.... that was all ;-)
speedtouchconf-07.03.2003.tar.gz is the setup scripts
speedtouch-1.2-beta1.tar.gz is the drivers needed
speedmgmt.tar.gz is from Alcatel website.
Put them all into /speedtouchconf-07.03.2003 and run the speedtouchconf.sh script....
It has been working for 2 weeks now...
