Adding harddrive sdb becoms sdc

In my server I have 2 harddrives. sda and sdb
Sata port 1 = sda
Sata port 2 = sdb

But after i add a new harddrive the new structure looks like this:

Sata port 1 = sda
Sata port 2 = sdc
Sata port 3 = sdb

When i was putting in one more discs i couldnīt boot becuse the sda was not longer the disc on port 1. No boot device.

What is deciding what dev id my disc get?

Iīm running slackware 13.0, motherboard ASUS M2N68-AM PLUS

Yes, the order can change like that. Which is why it is a good idea to set /etc/fstab to mount by UUID or LABEL instead of device path.
