add third monitor using on board graphics

Hi there,

My current setup happily runs two monitors from a GTX970 Graphics card. I just bought a new monitor and have swapped it out for the older monitor, and want to run that one from the on board graphics on the motherboard, but I am a little lost, I was kind of hoping that it would pick it up, but it hasn't and I don't know where I should be looking to sort this out. I have the Nvidia drivers working fine so the graphics card is working nicely, but does that mean I have to do something tricky to get the onboard graphics working for my last monitor?

here is computer spec:
OS: Linux Mint 15
Mother board: ASUS z97 -A intel 1150 ATX
Graphics Card: GTX 970

Kind regards
iFunc

Hi,

update: so I have enabled multi-monitor in the BIOS, and it is now being picked up by the hardware, however, I can't get linux mint to detect it to the point I can actually use it. It just has the 5 mint start up dots in the middle of the screen.

Any ideas.

NVidia's proprietary drivers disable KMS. The Intel and the Modesetting driver that also can drive Intel gfxchips both require KMS be enabled. There are special drivers for laptops that support both Intel and NVidia gfxchips. Maybe one of them would work for your Z97. The only other way I can think of is purging the proprietary driver so that KMS can drive both nouveau and/or intel and/or modesetting drivers.
