Adaptec - VIDEOh! PCI (AVC-2010) - Video capture card

hi. this is my first post, i'm a :newbie: to linux .. I built a pc (athlon xp 2800, nVidia gforce 5200, 512 mb, 80 gb) specially designed for testing purposes with linux, i'm currently using slackware 9.1 and mandrake 9.2 (i've also tried to install gentoo but failed, mainly because the lack of time, tho I learnt a lot from it). So, i got this new video capture card and is not detected at all in slackware (says something like unknown device), but it seems to be recognized as a tv capture device in mandrake 9.2, but i can't find a way to test if the card is really working, i installed DVR, i get a message the says "unable to initialize the video for linux interface (dvr.cpp:178)" and when running DrakxTV the only two settings are TV norm and Area. So maybe i was thinking I maybe I should try to install proper drivers for the card, the only problem is that i have no idea where to start , i've already tried google.com/linux but there were only very few matches with no helpful information at all... I'd really apreciate any responses.... thanks.

p.d.: I still have the sales reciep and i will change it if i have to..
