I'm not too familiar with SCSI tape drives, but I can try to help you with some Linux basics that may apply to the problem.
First, please tell me what version of Red Hat you are using.
Second, please post ALL the output from the hardware browser. If you can't copy and paste it, try to save it as a file and then copy and paste it. If that doesn't work, try posting the results of "lspci" (in a command prompt).
Third, please post the results of typing "lsmod" on a command line. It should be a long list of driver modules. One of the driver modules should be called "st". If you don't see it, try doing "modprobe st" as root. Post the output of that command, if any.
Fourth, please type in a command prompt, "modinfo st" and post the resulting text.
Hopefully we will be able to find the st (SCSI Tape) module, insert it, and then get some info on it. If not, we'll most likely have to recompile your kernel. (There are some good how-tos out there for that.)
Also, have you ever had the drive working on this machine, or is this your first attempt? Has it worked on any other Linux machines?
Silly question: Have you tried to access the tape drive? It may already be working! It should be located at /dev/st0 or /dev/tapes/tape0 or something like that. Try doing (on a tape with some non-important stuff on it), "mt -f /dev/tape status" or "mt -f /dev/st0 status" or "mt -f /dev/tapes/tape0 status".
Hope that helps!
