acpi problems

Hi,

I have tried different distributions so far. The problem was always the same. While under Windows XP there is no problem with acpi, under Linux (right now Suse 9.2) the laptop (Gericom 1st Supersonic) freezes after 10 minutes. So, I turned acpi off (boot: pci=off, pci=noacpi did not work). But then there happen other problems (see other thread in this forum).

I finally reallised that the network adapter does not work because I turned pci off. If I turn pci on there no problem with network and internet connections, only the machine stops after 10 minutes.

Strangely, if I use live-eval-CDs of Suse 9.2 (and I believe it was the same with knoppix 3.7) it works. The mashine does not stop after 10 minutes and network/internet works fine. So what is so special about live-eval-CDs and what can I do?

Matthias
