hi! my father has just bougth a new acer aspire 6930 with an intel WIFI LINK 5100 wifi card. i started installing fedora 10, but i realised that the kernel did'nt recognise it.

After 2 weeks i decided to intall a newest version od fedora, Fedora 11 Alpha, and my wifi adapter started to shine (the led). NOw the kernel recognise it.

I get connected to my wireless network, and when i rebooted, i couldnt got connected against.

I've tried with mandriva one spring 2009 and the same.

any sugestions? is the kernel having any errors?

NOTE: i always see my wifi network, an the WEP password for the network is configured, but it does not connect. (i've tried with WICD and NETWORKMANAGER, but always the same)

... reports the wifi as i5100 - working with f10. Nothing special needed.

any idea? i'm using now mandriva one 2009. with kde 4.2. but i've tried fedora 10 , ubuntu 8.10, fedora 11 alpha and ubuntu 9.04 alpha

Cool - and the Ubuntu based distros do have more autodection/autoconfiguration. There is a price for this ... but when you start out it is nice not to struggle through custom configurations.

Note - Mint 6 is the older of the distros you tried ... sometimes the latest is not the best.
There is a bug against fedora and ubuntu with similar symptoms to yours - I'd hold off upgrading mint for a bit.

I'm running Gentoo with the 2.6.31-rc2 kernel on my 6930G.

Make sure your access point is set up for 11b or 11g mode; I can't connect to my (SMC) access point in 11n mode with the iwlagn driver with or without encryption using the native intel 5100 chipset from my Gentoo build. I have the same behavior under Vista on this laptop - if I set the access point to 11n mmode only, I see it but never authenticate. As soon as I switch to 11g/n or 11b/g, everything works fine...

If I remember correctly, though, when I first bought it (~Oct 2008), I brought it up on the Kubuntu 8.10 beta, and the wifi worked ok...
