Acer AL1912 Monitor won't display

I just got an Acer AL1912 monitor and hooked it up to my box. It's a dual boot, and when I boot into windows it is fine, but Linux isn't. I have Redhat 9, when it boots everything works fine until the logon screen should come up, then the monitor goes black. It says "Input Not Supported". If you wait the logon screen then comes up, but I can't use my keyboard. My mouse works fine though. Any ideas on how to fix this?

Thanks,
akurtis

Try to boot to init 3 and re-configure your x config file to suit the monitor specifications (resolution and refresh rates)

I have looked at some other posts in this forum, and it appears that altering the x config file will fix the problem. My keyboard doesn't work however. It works during the boot process, but as soon as the login screen comes up, it will no longer work, can't even turn caps lock on. Is there a way to boot to init 3 from the boot loader? I have grub.

Thanks,
akurtis

While in grub, press "c", that enables you to edit the boot parameters. Get at the end of the line, and add "init 3", the boot

When I press c, the grub> comes up. I tried typing in init 3, then hitting enter, which gives me "Error 27: Unrecognized Command". I also tried init 3 boot, with the same results.

When I type "a" in grub, then append init 3 it boots in runlevel 3. The resulting login screen is a command line, and I don't get a input not supported message. My keyboard still doesn't work, so this is useless. Anyone have any idea why the keyboard won't work? It worked before and works fine in windows (dual-boot). I can also turn on caps lock and scroll lock while it is booting but not while the login screen is there.

Thanks for the help,
akurtis
