Hi everywhere,

i have an old digital camera canon powershot g5. I am using Ubuntu 8.10. Everytime when i plug in the camera with my usb cable the camera is mounted on the desktop, but i can't browse the content.

When I start digikam, the camera can be detected with usb-mode or ptp-mode. But I can't access the camera as long as it is mounted. After unmounting the camera everything works great.

Does anybody know how could I change the behavior of gnome or digikam that i must not unmount the camera before downloading the pictures?

If I'm using f-spot the camera is unmounted at the start of the programm... the icon disappears from the desktop and i can access the camera. But I don't want to use f-spot.

It seems to be a workaround, if I access the camera as an USB-drive. The camera is very slow and it needs to be unmounted at the end...

I found a little better workaround. In https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+s...am/+bug/288470 is a script, which kills all gvfs-gphoto2 processes and then start digikam. It works for me. I started it when plugging in the camera...

here's the script

#!/bin/bash
killall gvfsd-gphoto2
digikam --detect-camera

any further suggestions (better than "kill" or to tell gvfs to ignore the camera)

A bit better than killing the process is to unmount the volume. Here's the script which unmounts all cameras mounted bei gphoto2:

#!/bin/bash
gvfs-mount -s gphoto2
digikam --detect-camera

if somebody has any simple idea how to make it specific to a camera...

Thanks for this thread, I use a script to download photos from my cameras and I had to unmount them everytime because I didn't find this tool. (gvfs-mount)
Actually, on Ubuntu 8.10 Intrepid, you need to install the package 'gvfs-bin'
