Abit KV7 and linux: good?
Hi!
I'm considering buying this mobo for a new computer, and I'm trying to figure how much of a trouble will it be to set it up.
I did a bit of research on it, but the results are dubious. Some ppl have reported failures where other succeeded. Here at lq's hcl there's one kv7 entry, but i needed more details.
Ideally I would like to know if the mobo will be fully supported under debian sarge. But suse 9.1 is my friend, also.
The manual tells me the hw is:
Via KT600 and VT8237 chipsets.
Support to sata devices is made through south bridge VT8237.
Sound and network is onboard.
The questions are:
- Can I reliably disable onboard devices to install my own cards?
- How is linux support for sata doing these days?
- Can I use sata and pata alongside?
- If I won't install any sata device, is it necessary to install or have sata support in order to complete a systems install? I mean, do I need to install sata support even if I won't use it (at least for the near future)?
Thanks!
