ABIT KR7A133-RAID MB - HPT372 RAID Controller
 

I have a new ABIT KR7A 133-RAID Motherboard, which has the Highpoint HPT372 RAID IDE Controller. I am running 2-40GB MAXTOR disk drives in RAID 0 Striping configuration under Windows XP, and have reserved 6 GB space for Linux. I want to install REDHAT 7.2, but don't know where to obtain a driver for the RAID controller, or whether it is already supported with the REDHAT distribution. Can anyone help?

It seems the High point produced drivers, which are really a pack of add in files and a special boot disk, are available: here

Most of the stuff online warned people away from trying as there wasn't apparently any support in the kernel for this controller. Then again these pages are old enough to be in google, and are therefore archaic, so its probably just a matter of making a custom bootdisk.

I can't find anything specific to hpt in the kernel changelogs since 2.4.7, but it might have been inclusive of something greater.

Thanks, but I already checked their web page. It says

"The BIOS updates posted on this site are only suitable for use with PCI card Host Adapters, not motherboard/HPT3xx chipset combinations. Please visit the motherboard manufacturer's website for the proper download.".

I then checked the ABIT site to no avail. I also sent ABIT Tech Support an email, but only got an automated response with no good info.

Has anyone tried teh drivers from Hotpoint's site on an ABIT motherboard?

Yeah the drivers from highpoint work fine.

Basically they include an installation boot disk for RH 7.0-7.2 that has the native mode support for the HPT controller disabled so ti doesn't try to load it at all. And then you boot with it in expert mode and it will prompt you for a driver disk.

At that point you supply the other disk. Make sure you read the documentation because there is another step at the completion of the install before you reboot that you have to do to put a kernel that supports the controller instead of the default kernel from the CD.

My problem is I wanna install RedHat 7.3 but they don;t have those disks out for it yet and I am impatient.

How do I go about modifying the default installation boot disk so that it doesn't try to load any support for any HPT controller?

My next question is how do I make a RedHat driver disk with the modules.cgz file and all?
