A7v600, onboard sound doesnt work REDHAT9

I have an ASUS A7V600 motherboard

With onboard sound

The sound chip is recognized by Redhat 9 as Model: VT8233 AC97 Audio Controller

using Module: via82cxxx_audio

Is this suppose to work, because I cant hear shit. Ive turned up the volume control. Several of my programs say that the sound isnt working. So, yeah it doesnt work.

I was wondering how I can fix this, what drivers I can download, where I can download them, what the hell is ALSA, and how do I change which drivers my soundcard is using. I don't know how to reconfigure hardware at all.

Thanks a bunch
