A wireless USB adapter that works out of the box on linux?
I've went through 2 different wireless adapters that ran on the ralink driver, neither of which worked. I rlly don't want to keep my desktop computer on the floor by my router/tv. Does anyone know of a usb adapter that works out of the box with ubuntu 9.10? Driver included for linux on the installation disk?
Don't give me a link to some forum with a list of adapters that MIGHT work. Try giving a link to the product documentation. And if not that, at least provide a link so I know I find the right product instead of typing in the wrong version into google and spending another 20-40 dollars or more. I would prefer to have an n wireless adapter but if this isn't possible, at least a g adapter. I've been going around on websites for a week now and have found literally nothing. Please help.

What websites have you gone too? and What wireless cards have you already tried? http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...l%20RNX-G300LX This card had a lot of promise to it. Seen quite a few reports that as stated "worked right out of the box" It did not get alot of good reviews lately. So use at your own risk.
Have you also looked at our HQ HCL. That list is pretty good.
I too was in your situation about the time you were looking for an adapter. After weeks of searching I found the the Roswell RNX-G1W worked out of the box with BackTrack 3 & 4, and Ubuntu running kernel 6. The Linux driver is written for the kernels 2,3,4,and 5 but I was using the other day with Mythbuntu and it worked Out-of-Box. It's only b/g 802.11 capable put it has a removable antenna and I purchased a monstrous 9dB one and it picks up tons of access points.
Try looking a NewEgg and search the sight for Roswell RNX-G1W...
The engenius 300 mbps Wireless N USB Adapter is one that finally works, but it took me a lot of time to set up the rt3070 driver (from ralinktech.com I believe). But with ubuntu 9.10 it no longer uses certain directories to enable it on startup so I had to make a launcher that I have to click on (putting it in startup doesn't work). I'm still working on finding a way to enable the rt3070 driver on startup, but it's an N adapter and it's faster than I need.
