845g graphics work but at low refresh rate?

Hi everyone,

I recently got a Dell Dimension 2400. Redhat 9 found a driver (i810) for the integrated 845g graphic card and it seems to work perfectly. However, the refresh rate is only at 60 for various resolution . My monitor can handle 1600x1200x32bit at 85Hz. Intel's website state that the 845g card can handle 1600x1200x32bit at 85Hz as well. I even tried running at 1024x748x24bit to see if I get higher refresh rate but still, 60Hz!

I searched through the forumn and it seem people either have problems (no driver) or no problem w/ this card. None of the topic has "work but at low refresh rate" ;(.

Looking at the X log, it seems the problem w/ the refresh rate is caused by the driver ("(WW) I810(0): Failed to set refresh rate to 85Hz.")

Any suggestions? TIA

Here is the XFconfig (I did tried the Modeline thing but it doesn't work).

I've also struggled with this problem. Tried many things including downloading the driver from intel, bumping up memory for video in BIOS, various settings in XF86Config. None of that works.

What finally fixed it is the driver fix in the latest XF86:

http://www.xfree86.org/~dawes/845driver.html

"25 January 2004:
Code was added to check for the Intel-specific video mode refresh rate BIOS calls before relying on them. The standard VBE 3 method is then used to set the refresh rate. "
