8.6.20 ATI Drivers and ATI Radeon XPress 200M

I am trying to install the new ATI Drivers (8.16.20) on a Compaq R4000 laptop that uses the ATI Radeon Xpress 200M video card. I am currently running the 2.6.10 kernel on Ubuntu 64.

The drivers compile with a bunch of warnings and appear to install ok. I don't get any dmesg errors, but if I leave DRI enabled then I boot to a blank screen. If I add the option NoDri "yes" to xorg.conf, everything appears to work ok, however I only get 360 fps in glxgears.

Has anybody been successful getting these drivers to work on a similar system?

As far as I know nobody has gotten the ATI 8.6.20 driver working.

You may want to check out the following link it is a forum for the Compaq R4000 and the HP zv6000

The ATI 8.16.20 drivers and ATI Radeon 9600 combination works for me on Gentoo Linux with Xorg.

I went back to 8.13.6. I get 1500 FPS with glxgears. It's sad, but it's better than the 300 I was gettings with 8.6.20 and no DRI.

Oh well :)

Actually I had perfect FPS running wow under wine with opengl and the 8.16.20, wine-20050725 and 2.6.12-ck6. All running more or less smoothly under Xorg until I did the grand mistake of upgrading. Wine is now at wine-20050830, kernel at 2.6.13-ck2 and drivers are at 8.16.20. Tried going down to 8.14.13 and then I started getting even less performance... Shrug... Gonna try to revert the changes I did to see if I can regain my lost effort.

Had 8.16.20 running with DRI and was doing Stratholme without anyproblems. Today I can't even get the login to not go extreemly sluggish.

Thanks, this really helps me out!

I have a Compaq V2410CA, also with a RADEON xPRESS 200m, and the damn driver wouldn't compile (unresolved symbols, etc.). I'm running vanilla 2.6.15 kernel on Slackware 10.2. It also would not compile on 2.6.14 with Slackware 10.2.

This at least gives me a few ideas. Thanks.

Was this ever resolved? I'm having the same problem on an HP dv5000? The link posted by moosedaddy is no longer active.

Thanks,
Brian

The forum changed its name and has not had a post in over a week. The current 32-bit drivers work well with most distributions. I know the 64-bit does not work with debian sid.

I'm having one heck of a time trying to get mine to work. I've posted it already on the Slackware board here, as that is my distribution and every other solution I've come accross seems to involve running a dist-specific tool like sax or yast.

It's working somewhat, I can get the resolution that I want, but it is not doing DRI properly.

Any other ideas would sure be welcome.

Thanks,
Brian
